What is Canva Magic Studio?
Canva Magic Studio is Canva's suite of AI tools. Canva's help centre describes it as an all-in-one suite of AI tools for teams that create and scale visual content. It sits inside the Canva editor, which runs on the web, iOS, Android, Windows and Mac and is made by Canva Pty Ltd of Australia. For product photos, Canva Magic Studio offers:
- Photo Background Remover: removes a background, in bulk for up to 50 images per folder.
- Photo Background Generator: "Describe your perfect photo background with a text prompt".
- Magic Edit, Magic Eraser, Magic Expand and Magic Grab: edit, erase, extend or lift parts of an image.
- Mockups: generate professional mockups with AI, on every plan.
- Text to image: create an image with Canva AI.
The name has moved. On 4 November 2026 Canva's AI hub was titled "Canva AI" and canva.com/magic-studio returned a 404, although Canva's help pages still say Magic Studio and use the old tool names.

- AI Pass: an add-on at $100 a month per person, for 40 times the Pro allowance (20 times Business), on web-managed Pro and Business plans.
- AI top-up: a one-time block equal to the monthly Business allowance, valid 30 days, for Business subscribers; Canva's help page states no price.
- Standard AI tools such as the Image Upscaler do not draw on the allowance on paid plans, subject to fair use.
- Teams: Canva Teams is closed to new sign-ups and replaced by Business.

How much AI can you use with Canva Magic Studio?
Canva does not publish an absolute number of AI uses for any plan; it gives multiples of the Free plan's allowance. Canva's AI product terms, effective 26 June 2026, say AI usage limits "are operational controls and not fixed entitlements". The Photo Background Generator is capped at 200 images every 24 hours. Because Canva publishes no price per AI image, the cost of one Canva Magic Studio product photo cannot be worked out; Canva Pro costs $18 a month, or $12 a month billed yearly, for the whole design suite.
For comparison, one Photta product photo costs $0.25 to $0.47, depending on the plan, and the price is listed before you buy.

Is Canva Magic Studio free?
Partly. Canva's Free plan includes Mockups, text to image and other tools from a limited shared AI allowance, but Canva's plan table marks Magic Edit, Magic Eraser, Magic Expand, Magic Grab, the Photo Background Remover and the Photo Background Generator as not included. Canva's help page says the Background Remover is available with paid plans. Canva's AI terms and AI page say AI output can be used for personal and commercial projects without separating Free from paid plans.
Canva Magic Studio API and Shopify connection
Canva's REST APIs, formerly called Connect, cover Autofill and brand templates, and Canva's pricing page lists a REST API for custom apps on Enterprise only. We found no API endpoint for AI image generation or background removal in Canva's developer docs. Canva Magic Studio strengths and limits for product photos
- Strength: one editor. Canva Magic Studio puts background tools, resizing, templates for listings, ads and social posts, and brand kits in one place.
- Strength: reach. Canva has apps on every platform and about 86 interface languages, according to its iOS listing.
- Limit: not a product photography tool. Canva Magic Studio makes one-off edits; Canva's pages describe no saved product, scene presets or batch scene generation.
- Limit: quality warnings. Canva's own help page says a generated background "may be more pixelated than the original" and may not match the light direction of the photo.
- Limit: ownership. Canva's terms say outputs may not be unique, and editing a photo from the Canva library with AI does not give you ownership of the output.
- Limit: indemnity. Canva's AI output indemnity is for Enterprise customers with at least 100 seats.
